Logistics Industry

★ User Demand

Currently, China's cold chain infrastructure is fragmented, with total national cold storage capacity of approximately 8.8 million tons. The majority of this capacity is concentrated in production areas and suburban districts of large and medium-sized cities, which cannot effectively support a nationwide distribution system for perishable foods. The "Agricultural Products Cold Chain Logistics Development Plan" clearly states the goal of adding 10 million tons of cold storage capacity by 2020, with comprehensive support from policies, funding, and resources—heralding a golden period of development for third-party cold chain logistics.

★ Logistics Cold Storage Site Selection and Architectural Design

Site Requirements: Convenient transportation, reliable water and power supply, clean environment, and distance from pollution sources. Cold storage for meat and fish processing should be located on the upwind side of residential areas during summer months, based on prevailing wind direction, and close to production bases or commodity distribution centers.

Building Components: Includes cold processing and storage facilities (cooling rooms, freezing rooms, cold storage rooms, ice storage rooms), auxiliary buildings, transport facilities, administrative offices, and machinery/ice-making rooms.

Floor Plan Design: Should ensure a logical workflow with short, non-crossing paths, clear separation of high and low-temperature zones, and minimized building envelope area. Multi-story cold storages often adopt a "dumbbell" layout (high and low-temperature zones separated with a central hallway) or a unified design (with air curtains to prevent cold air leakage). Insulation layers (using materials such as rice husks, cork, expanded perlite, etc.) are installed on walls, ceilings, and floors, with a vapor barrier (e.g., asphalt felt) added on the warm side to prevent moisture infiltration.

★ Cold Chain Logistics Cold Storage

A complete food cold chain consists of four key stages: frozen processing, low-temperature storage, refrigerated transport, and fresh-keeping sales. Logistics cold storage plays a critical role in the frozen processing and low-temperature storage stages, featuring dedicated freezing processing rooms and cold storage rooms. Large-scale cold chain centers handle a wide variety of goods and require multiple temperature zones:

High-Temperature Zone: 0°C to 8°C, used for fruit and vegetable preservation.

Medium-Temperature Zone: -18°C to -23°C, used for aquatic products and poultry.

Low-Temperature Zone: Below -35°C, used for quick-frozen foods.
